National Reconciliation Week

national reconciliation week

National Reconciliation Week was wrapped up this year with a heartfelt assembly that covered all the days of importance.  National Sorry Day, The 1967 referendum and Mabo day, what they mean and why they must be remembered.

Cleo Holmes-Davis opened our assembly with a beautiful Welcome To Country in the traditional Dhurga Language.

School leaders spoke about Corroboree 2000 (Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk) which saw over 200,000 walk in unity and the national apology by Kevin Rudd and what is reconciliation.

Mrs Bos delivered the First Nations Veterans Commemoration speech, and spoke about the importance and important roles our Indigenous soldiers have played in our defence force services over the years from WW1 to current day.

At the conclusion of our assembly the whole school had the opportunity to try a couple of traditional dishes prepared by our Clontarf lads Anthony and DK. A fish curry to represent Anthony and his coastal heritage and a Kangaroo stew from out west to represent DK's heritage.
