Food Technology Students Dive into Australia's Culinary Evolution!

year 9 food technology

What does Australian cuisine mean to you? Year 9 Food Technology have spent the term exploring the evolution of Australian cuisine in the Food in Australia topic. We have looked at the contemporary use of native ingredients, colonial influences on our eating habits and the impact that migration of cultural groups has had on the foods we choose daily.

Students were tasked with representing the changing nature of our food in their recent practical assessment. Pictured here are students from 9FT7. A busy double prac lesson saw 18 individual dishes prepared. We are so proud of the creativity displayed in dishes such as the use of lemon myrtle in a variety of sweet baked treats; homemade chiko roll; lemon myrtle and saltbush chicken schnitzel; beef and Vegemite pie; kangaroo and pepperberry burger with Kakadu plum jam; wattleseed and chocolate baked cheesecake and many other tasty creations. Well done 9FT7!
