Sun, Salt Air, and Donkeys

Students patting donkeys

The donkeys were a big attraction for our Year 12 Agriculture students while visiting Meringo Creek Farm recently. Farmer Hughen McConaghy explained the reason for keeping the donkeys was to protect his sheep, as he has suffered big losses from foxes over the years, and since the introduction of the donkeys co-inhabiting with his flock, his losses are almost zero.

Mr. McConaghy also discussed the reasons why he chose his stock to farm, the benefits and pitfalls of farming each animal, stock rotation and pasture conditioning, and weather hazards. The complete process, from paddock to table

We thank Mr. McConaghy for an interesting and informative visit.
