Japanese fruit sandwiches have become increasingly popular thanks to social media, as they look so fantastic!
Japanese fruit sandwich or fruit sando (フルーツサンド) is a Japanese sandwich that is made with fresh seasonal fruit such as strawberries, kiwi and orange. It's filled with fresh whipped cream and sandwiched between two layers of soft, fluffy milk bread, also known as shokupan in Japan. We didn't have access to shokupan, but the fresh bread from Moruya French Hot Bread was perfect for these sandwiches. There were some very pretty designs once we sliced them in half.
Students also made some savoury cafe-style Japanese sandwiches during this last cooking double for the year.
We look forward to finding fruit sandwiches in Japan next year!
