Engineers Without Borders Workshop

students at a engineers without borders workshop

Engineers without Borders (EWB) from the University of Sydney visited Moruya High School on Tuesday 28 November to run a workshop.

EWB Australia works with highly skilled and passionate individuals and organisations in Australia and overseas. They are engineers and students who aim to CONNECT, EDUCATE, EMPOWER and promote social change.

In the workshop we learnt about different types of Engineers and then focused on a biomechanical engineering activity where students designed and made a prosthetic arm out of simple, everyday materials such as cardboard rolls, straws, paddle pop sticks, plastic tubing, glue and duct tape. Students needed to consider the structure, range of movement, use of materials and support.

Students tested how functional the finished products were by participating in challenges such as giving the tram leader a high 5, picking up objects, and throwing objects.

Thank you to EWB and USYD for visiting MHS.
