LEAPS AND BOUNDS AT UOW

leap students at workshop

Today our Year 9 LEAP classes attended the University of Wollongong Batemans Bay Campus for an enrichment day. We were greeted with smiles, cheese toasties and hot chocolates on this cold winters day!

UOW hosted this workshop which aimed to equip students with critical thinking skills and practical tools to identify, evaluate, and organise creditable information, empowering them to make informed choices in academic and everyday context.

A warm-up activity was Unknown Objects where students worked in a group to look at historical objects and be able to name them and provide a description of their use.

Students then participated in Truth Tracker, where they practiced deciphering real and fake news & information

After a BBQ lunch…thinking caps were on as students created 2 resources on the same topic, one report will be fake and the other is real. Groups worked together and used ChatGPT to create a fake version of the news article on this topic. Students then presented their articles to the entire group.

Students are to be congratulated on the work ethic demonstrated and we would like to acknowledge and thank the UOW staff who made the day fun, interactive, enjoyable and challenging.
