Taiyaki Grill

student cooking taiyaki

Taiyaki is a Japanese fish-shaped cake, typically filled with sweet red bean paste. Other fillings such as chocolate and custard are also common. It is a popular street food, often enjoyed warm, and is traditionally made in a cast iron mould shaped like a sea bream (tai), which is considered a symbol of good luck in Japan.

Year 11 students were excited to try out our new Japanese taiyaki grill this week. Everyone was very pleased with the results from the test run, and we look forward to making plenty of delicious taiyaki for staff and students in the coming months. Keep an eye out for a pop up taiyaki stall next term.
