Silvery Second Sends us to Sydney

girls volleyball team

WE ARE GOING!

The CHS Girls Volleyball team is going to the state championships in term 3.

The girls took on teams from the Snowy Mountains and the Southern Highlands. They held their ground against teams from Bega to Wollongong and on Tuesday after only succumbing in the last game they secured second place in the South Coast and a berth in the NSW State Championships.

It was a shaky start with Mulwaree capitalising on early mistakes. The girls rallied and won the game 21-18, 21-14.

Bulli faced us across the net next but the girls were warmed up and ready, taking the game 21-7, 21-11.

Then there was Wollongong Performing Arts, AKA Whisper. It was a mammoth tussle in the first set but we prevailed 25-23. The second set was dropped 16-21 but a draw was going to give us a valuable point.

Nowra returned in our fourth game and after some initial hard fought points in the first set, the girls came away with the victory; 21-17, 21-13.

Our final game would determine first from second. Narooma loomed large and took our final game in two sets. There was still a chance of finishing first if Mulwaree could just carve out a draw or victory against Narooma but alas the Narooma juggernaut kept rolling on.

When informed about their movement through to the championships the girls victory squeal was so loud it set off Mr Northey’s loud noise detector on his watch.

The entire team has played some of the best volleyball of their lives against some very capable teams. They are bastions of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Mr Northey would also like to thank the dad cheerleaders of Mr Norris and Mr Matthewson for supporting the team on the sidelines and enjoying the rollercoaster of emotion that comes with watching a team walk the tightrope between victory and defeat.
