The second half of our year 12 Murray Darling camp saw us enjoying a small break from industry visits, wandering the main streets of Echuca and learning of the history of the town aboard the PS Canberra. Here Rawdon boldly asked if he could steer the Paddlesteamer down the river and was successful in his quest! We had a huge day in Deniliquin, visiting the SunRice mill to observe large scale operations and producing food to strict specifications. We stopped in at a paddock to plate butchery for BBQ lunch and a presentation on the ins and outs of cattle farming, butchery and running a small business. We finished the day at a rice research farm which looks at ways to breed sustainable rice varieties. Our last stop was Junee where we had the hard task of sampling products at the chocolate and licorice factory, whilst Neil the owner gave us an in depth look at the manufacturing, packaging, development and distribution of the most delicious products. We would like to thank Aimee Snowden @littlebrickpast for all of her tireless work on the itinerary for the trip (plus a trip to her family farm and a presentation from her dad), along with @SunriceFoods, @KagomeAustralia, @scheduleitirrigation, @pattisonpastoralbutchery, @selxnsw, @RiceResearchAustralia and @juneelicoriceandchocolate for taking time out to share industry knowledge with us.
