Year 7 students applied the scientific principles of distillation to extract eucalyptus oil from raw plant material. The leaf matter was torn up and heated to a temperature where only the oil evaporated. The vapour was then cooled and collected for use. Medicinal properties of eucalyptus vapour have long been known by First Nation Australians.
