Year 12 Earth and Environmental Science students have been exploring early life on Earth. The class constructed a Winogradsky column using sediment from the creek running through the school which will produce a range of microbial communities of bacteria and archaea. For the first 2 billion years of Earth’s history, they were the only living things on the planet.
The class has also been investigating the increasing complexity of life. Students viewed 3D models of organisms from the Ediacaran and Cambrian periods and made observations about how organisms differed between the two.
