Moruya High school has obtained a Stars foundation Academy to start Week 1, Term 1 2025.
The ‘Stars Foundation’ mentors and empowers First Nations girls and young women across Australia and provides a holistic program that supports Indigenous girls and young women to attend and remain engaged at school, complete year 12 and move into work or further study.
The program is tailored to meet the unique needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strtait islander students and young women - with the aim to provide positive education, employment and life outcomes. The ‘Stars’ model is underpinned by the latest research in education and public health along with decades of experience working with First Nation students.
Students will also take part in community, cultural and volunteering activities to help build their life skills and confidence and further develop their links to culture and community.
‘Stars’ is now in its 10th year across Australia and opened in NSW only 2 yrs ago. NSW currently has 6 academies in Tumut, Albury , Inverell, South Grafton, Gunnedah and Tamworth. The Moruya Acadamy will be the 7th to open.
AEO Aunty Lisa Rowley has been the cornerstone in getting the academy to MHS and has the full support of our Deputy Principals , Glenn Grimmond and Rhonda Mason and our relieving principal Mark English to bring this fantastic opportunity to our school.
Moruya High will be unique in Aboriginal Education, well being and support as we have both Clontarf for out young men and Stars for our young women.
