Last week, staff from the six public high schools on the Far South Coast gathered to attend a Career Immersion team meeting and professional learning session focused on supporting student pathways.
The day began with a professional learning session presented by Alison Simpson, which provided a powerful overview of the impact teachers can have in supporting Aboriginal students in their transition to further education or work pathways. The session included showcasing mentoring programs and success stories.
Staff and local community stakeholders then participated in workshops and presentations from the Human Rights Commission, introducing policies and data related to supporting students with a disability in career exploration and post-school pathways. This was followed by a presentation from a local NDIS representative who explained the NDIS framework to help staff better support families. The presentation emphasised the importance of career goal setting at school to support students’ post-school aspirations.
Staff also assessed current school processes and reflected on existing practices that could be strengthened to better support students’ future pathways.
