MHS - Week of Harmony & Inclusion

students at harmony day

Throughout week 8, Moruya High recognised and celebrated Harmony Week. Whilst the focus of Harmony Week is usually on celebrating multiculturalism, our school community wanted to make sure that people of all abilities and backgrounds were recognised and included as part of our festivities.

Monday kicked off with an extended quad assembly where student leaders outlined Harmony Week events and Clontarf Academy Director, Dane Kennedy, and student Rawdon L played the didgeridoo to open our festivities.

On Tuesday, staff and students were invited into Douglas Park where students and staff from the Support Unit hosted a delicious barbecue.

Wednesday brought a splash of colour to the Quad, with our very own Rainbow Group selling fairy bread and friendship bracelets to raise money for charity Twenty10.

On Thursday, Close the Gap Day, we acknowledged and paid our respects to the First Peoples of this land with student led workshops on the importance of closing the gap. Students also wore orange and rainbow mufti to raise money for the charity All Together Now.

Our celebrations culminated on Friday with a formal assembly where speeches and performances by staff, students and our special guest Ms Pei-Shan Wu were very well received. Students enjoyed a sweet treat in the form of complementary rainbow paddle pops, while guests, speakers, and Harmony Week organisers enjoyed a delicious morning tea at the school's cafe provided by our year 12 Hospitality students.

We would like to thank everyone involved for making our Harmony Week celebrations such a positive and inclusive experience for our school community!
